Wyoming's energy industry just keeps getting stronger and isn't showing many signs of stopping. Within the last week reports show that one new coal fired power plant will begin generating electricity very soon. Another company has stated that they will begin mining Uranium within the next year.

According to The Gillette News Record, Basin Electric says their Dry Fork Station is undergoing its start up phase. The start up phase means that each part of the plant is being tested. Once the start up phase is complete the initial plan is to ignite the first batch of coal in the plants boiler within a week. The plant will then begin commercial operation this summer with a capacity of 385 megawatts and a permanent workforce of 83 people.

Sweetwater county will also be seeing some new activity at the Lost Creek Uranium mine. Ur Energy hopes to have the mine up and running by 2012. If the company begins production 60 jobs would be created and direct wages would amount to approximately $32.5 million in its first eight years.

Both of these sites are just two more steps to expanding an already booming industry. The amount of drilling in the state has caused some controversy over the years but controversy has yet to stop companies from coming in. Long term effects may prove to be to much to handle, some limits may be set in place but as of now Wyoming's energy is fairing well.
