DAVIE, Fla. (AP) — Two people familiar with the situation say suspended Miami Dolphins guard Richie Incognito sent text messages to teammate Jonathan Martin that were racist and threatening.

The people spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the Dolphins and NFL haven't disclosed the nature of the misconduct that led to Incognito's suspension.

Martin remained absent from practice today one week after the tackle suddenly left the team. Also absent was Incognito, suspended indefinitely late Sunday for his treatment of Martin.

The team and NFL continued their investigation into allegations by Martin's representatives that he was bullied. The NFL Players Association also planned to look into the matter.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Executive Vice President John Elway says Denver Broncos coach John Fox underwent heart surgery today in North Carolina. Fox underwent aortic valve replacement surgery while defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio was running practice after being named interim head coach.

Elway said he knew the 58-year-old Fox needed a heart operation, which had been scheduled for after the season.

Del Rio was named interim head coach Monday when the Broncos returned from their bye. He will remain Denver's defensive coordinator while running the team for several weeks while Fox recovers.

HOUSTON (AP) — Gary Kubiak (KOO'-bee-ak), the 52-year-old coach of the Houston Texans, remains in a Houston hospital. He collapsed on the field at halftime Sunday, appearing to wince in pain before he was put on a stretcher and hustled to an ambulance.

The Texans say Kubiak will remain hospitalized until at least Tuesday. The team has not released what's wrong with Kubiak, saying only that he experienced "dizziness and a light-headed feeling" during the game and had undergone tests with his family at his side.

"Gary is alert, coherent and in good spirits," general manager Rick Smith said Monday as questions swirled about the coach's health. "He is continuing to be evaluated and monitored."
