UNDATED (AP) — The Los Angeles Dodgers' team-record road winning streak has come to an end.

Joe Kelly and five relievers combined on a nine-hitter as the Cardinals knocked off the Dodgers 5-1. Carlos Beltran and Matt Adams hit eighth-inning homers against the Dodgers, who had won 15 straight on the road since a 4-2 loss at San Francisco on July 6.

The outcome keeps the Cardinals two games behind the first-place Pittsburgh Pirates in the National League Central and cuts the Dodgers' lead in the NL West to five games over Arizona.

Josh Harrison led off the bottom of the ninth with a homer to give the Pirates their third straight win, 4-3 over Miami. The Pirates trailed 3-0 in the third until Andrew McCutchen hit a two-run double and scored on a triple by Pedro Alvarez.

Arizona inched a game closer to the Dodgers as Cody Ross smacked a three-run homer and Evan Longoria added a solo shot in the Diamondbacks' 6-1 victory against Tampa Bay. Eric Chavez had two RBIs to back Wade Miley, who limited the Rays to a run and five hits in seven innings.

Boston spotted Houston a 5-0 lead before Jacoby Ellsbury homered twice and Jonny Gomes (gohmz) added a three-run blast in a 15-10 win over the Astros. Ryan Lavarnway tied a major league record with four passed balls in the first inning, but he also put the Red Sox ahead to stay with a two-run double in the fifth. The Bosox scored five times in both the fifth and sixth inning to stretch their lead in the AL East to 1 ½ games over Tampa Bay.

Detroit tacked on another game to its AL Central lead. Justin Verlander tossed eight strong innings and the Tigers improved to 11-3 versus the Indians this season by winning 5-1 at Cleveland. Verlander allowed one run and four hits as Detroit beat the Indians for the 10th time in their last 11 meetings to open a five-game lead over second-place Cleveland in the AL Central. Don Kelly had the game's big blow, a three-run homer in the fifth inning of the Tigers' 10th straight win.

Oakland's lead in the AL West is down to a game over Texas.

Adrian Beltre singled home the tiebreaking run in the eighth before the Rangers scored four times in the ninth to beat the Los Angeles Angels 8-3. Elvis Andrus went 3-for-5 with an RBI and three runs scored in the Rangers' eighth victory in nine games.

Jay Bruce hit a solo homer and Matos Latos (LAY'-tohs) pitched into the eighth inning of Cincinnati's 3-1 triumph against Oakland. Latos is 11-3 after limiting the Athletics to four hits in 7 1/3 scoreless innings.

Also around the majors, Andrew Albers was terrific in his major league debut, allowing four hits over 8 1/3 innings of Minnesota's 7-0 shutout of Kansas City. Brian Dozier homered and drove in three runs for the Twins, who dealt the Royals just their second loss in 14 games.

Julio Teheran allowed a run and four hits in six innings as Atlanta earned its 12th consecutive win, 2-1 at Washington. Evan Gattis supplied a two-run single in the fifth inning to help the Braves stretch their lead in the National League East to 14 ½ games over the Nationals.

Adam Jones was 4-for-4 with a solo homer and two RBIs in Baltimore's 4-1 verdict over the Padres in San Diego. Bud Norris won for the second time in two starts since joining the Orioles, who remain 1 ½ games behind Texas for the final AL wild-card berth.

Chase Utley went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored as Philadelphia won for only the second time in 14 games, beating the Cubs 9-8. Darin Ruf and Carlos Ruiz hit solo homers, and Dominic Brown drove in two runs after coming off the disabled list hours earlier.

Juan Ligares (lih-GAHR'-ehs) was the hitting star in the New York Mets' 3-2 win against Colorado, hitting a two-run triple in the first before supplying the tiebreaking single in the bottom of the eighth. Mets starter Jenrry Mejia (HEHN'-ree meh-HEE'-uh) struck out seven while limiting the Rockies to four hits in 5 1/3 innings.

Chris Sale pitched well in the Chicago White Sox's 3-2 win over the New York Yankees, allowing a run and five hits over 7 1/3 innings. Alex Rodriguez went 1-for-2 with a walk and a hit-by-pitch as the Yankees' designated hitter.

Wily (WIH'-lee) Peralta held the Giants to a run and five hits over 6 1/3 innings of Milwaukee's 3-1 triumph at San Francisco. Carlos Gomez hit a solo homer and Norichika Aoki (nohr-ah-CHEE'-kah ah-OH'-kee) was 2-for-4 with two runs scored for the Brewers.

Jose Reyes led off Toronto's 7-2 win at Seattle with a homer and later poked an RBI single. Emilio Onifacio (boh-nah-FAH'-see-oh) also drove in two runs to back Josh Johnson, who was 1-8 with a 6.60 ERA before tossing five shutout innings.

UNDATED (AP) — Rangers right-hander Colby Lewis will have surgery to remove bone spurs from his right hip, ending his chances of pitching this season for Texas.

Lewis says he has been dealing with hip pain during his comeback from surgery last year to repair a torn flexor tendon in his right elbow. He had been pitching in rehabilitation games. He had been expected to possibly be in the Rangers rotation in the next couple of weeks.

Also in the majors, right fielder Jason Heyward left the Atlanta Braves' game against the Washington Nationals because of a muscle strain in his neck. Heyward was injured while batting in the top of the first inning and didn't take the field for the bottom half.

The Indians have placed starter Corey Kluber on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained right middle finger. Kluber pitched 7 1/3 shutout innings against Detroit last night and never mentioned anything about his finger following the game. He's 7-5 with a 3.54 ERA in 19 starts.

Royals left-hander Danny Duffy is ready to make his season debut, more than a year following Tommy John surgery. Duffy will fill in on Wednesday for Wade Davis against the Minnesota Twins.

Nationals manager Davey Johnson says third baseman Ryan Zimmerman eventually could change positions if his throwing problems don't get sorted out. He has made 17 errors this year, second-most among all major league third baseman.

Alex Rodriguez's return had an immediate impact for the New York Yankees — on the team's television network. A-Rod's first major league game since October drew the YES Network's highest rating this year for a Yankees game, even though New York lost 8-1 at the Chicago White Sox on Monday night.

The Mets have placed closer Bobby Parnell on the 15-day disabled list because of a herniated disc in his neck and have recalled infielder Wilmer Flores from Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday. Flores could see plenty of action with All-Star third baseman David Wright on the disabled list.
