Memorial Day Services Planned For Laramie

On Monday, the public is invited to a Memorial Day Service, sponsored by the American Legion Post 14 & Legion Auxiliary and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2221 & Auxiliary.

There will be a number of events roaming about the Laramie community on Monday morning, but it all begins 8 AM at the Harmony Gardens on Highway 230. At the that time, there will be a flag raising, invocation, rifle salute and taps, before the program moves on to the Laramie River Bridge for an 8:30 Naval Remembrance Service. The service at the Laramie River Bridge will include laying of a memorial wreath, a rifle salute and taps. At 9:00, the service will continue at the Veterans Flag Pole Memorial at the Albany County Courthouse also with a flag raising, invocation, rifle salute and taps.

The largest ceremony of Memorial Day in Laramie however begins at 10 o’clock at the Grand Army of the Republic Monument in Green Hill Cemetery. Deanna Hurless, Commander of American Legion Post 14 will be the Master of Ceremonies. At the ceremony, there will again be a flag raising, followed by the national anthem and an invocation. At that point in the Memorial Day Service, there will be the posting of Logan’s General Order #11, a Memorial Day Address and reading of the Gettysburg Address, “In Flanders Field” and a roll call of departed comrades. The Green Hill Cemetery Ceremony will conclude with the placing of memorial wreaths, a rifle salute, and the playing taps.
