Medicine Bow Man Killed in Rollover Crash
A Medicine Bow man was killed in a fatal rollover crash early Wednesday morning.
Daniel Sims, 26, was killed after the 1998 Ford Escape he was traveling in rolled near milepost 265 on US Highway 30 about seven miles west of Medicine Bow at 5:51 a.m. Wednesday.
According to a news release from the Wyoming Highway Patrol, Sims and 29-year-old Brittany Forester of Hanna were not wearing their seatbelts when the Escape crossed over the centerline of the highway onto the westbound shoulder, was overcorrected to the right and went into a spin. The Escape spun off the highway to the south, tripped and rolled multiple times.
Both Sims and Forester were thrown from the vehicle. Sims died at the scene.
Forester was taken by ambulance to Memorial Hospital of Carbon County in Rawlins, where she has been hospitalized.
Investigators have not yet determined whether Sims or Forester was driving at the time of the crash. The Patrol says the use of alcohol and unspecified controlled substances are being investigated as contributing factors in the crash.
Sims was the 22nd person killed on Wyoming highways in 2016. There were 49 fatalities during this same time period in 2015.
