Martin Luther King Jr. National Day of Service

Volunteers can choose to work from a variety of projects during the Martin Luther King Jr. National Day of Service Monday, Jan. 21, from 1-3:30 p.m. in the lower level of the University of Wyoming Union. The event is open to students, faculty and staff, and community members.

The event concludes with the annual march from the Albany County Courthouse to the Wyoming Union beginning at 4 p.m., followed by a supper and performances in the Union Ballroom.

Several student and community groups have planned a volunteer booth where participants will have the opportunity to serve in a variety of ways. Each booth will offer different service projects ranging from tying fleece blankets for newborns and children in need to writing letters to U.S. troops.

Volunteer opportunities will focus on the environment, youth, health, hunger and poverty.

“With so many service projects to choose from, there will be something to match everyone’s interests and passion,” says Sagan Hunsaker, project coordinator with UW’s office of Service, Leadership & Community Engagement (SLCE) that sponsors the service day with AmeriCorps and The Greater Wyoming Big Brothers Big Sisters.
