Those wanting to get outdoors for the holiday weekend in southeast Wyoming will have plenty of options, although many of those options may be hampered by wet weather.

Most recreation sites on Pole Mountain will be open this weekend, including the Vedauwoo Day-Use Site, Vedauwoo Campground, Blair Picnic Area, Yellow Pine Campground, as well as Happy Jack, Summit and Tie City Day-Use Sites.

On the Snowy Range side, snow drifts still prevent many through travel routes. Recreation sites that will be open include North Fork and Willow Campgrounds, Barber Lake Picnic Area, and a handful of year-round accessible trailheads. Both campgrounds still have snow on the ground.

In addition, The Centennial Visitor Center opens this weekend. It will be open 9 am-5:30 p.m. through the holiday weekend.

Day-use fees are $5.00 and daily campground fees are typically $10.00. If services are not yet available to the public, then recreation areas may have reduced fees or no fees.

Some campgrounds will have trash and toilet services available, however, the majority do not yet have water, so campers should plan to bring their own.

Even with a lower fire risk, visitors to the forest are asked to use basic fire safety while in the forest.
