The Laramie Police Department is investigating a number of burglaries that occurred in the north-central area of Laramie over the weekend.

Police say they received reports of six automobile burglaries, four residential burglaries, an attempted entry into a residence, an attempted theft of a 4-wheeler and a stolen vehicle.  The crimes all occurred in the early morning hours of July 24th within the boundaries of 13th Street to 17th Street, between Curtis and Beaufort Streets.

Police Commander Mitchell Cushman says that in each case, the suspect entered the vehicle or residences through unlocked doors.  "If I had one thing to say about how to prevent like this from happening to people, is that if they keep their vehicles locked and their expensive items out of sight or out of the vehicle, then that gives them a better chance of not being broken into.  That goes for homes as well."

Laramie police are looking for a person of interest in the case.  He is described as a Hispanic male, approximately 5' 9", 170 lbs with an average build.  He is said to have "scraggly" facial hair and a buzz cut.  The suspect was wearing jeans and a black short sleeve shirt with florescent green writing on it.  "This person was involved in the entry of a residence, and was kind of in the same area as these burglaries," says Cmdr. Cushman.  "This person was actually in a residence at one time and managed to get away."

Cmdr. Cushman goes on to say that police can't say at this time that the person of interest is directly connected to all of the burglaries in the area, but he was in the area about the time the burglaries occurred.

Police are also still seeking a vehicle that was stolen from the area at the time of the burglaries, that vehicle ids described as a brown 2007 GMC Sierra pickup with Wyoming truck registration 5-3855.

Cmdr. Cushman asks that anyone with information on the truck, the suspect or any of the burglaries are asked to contact the Laramie Police at (307) 721-2526.

People in the area who had items taken from either their vehicle or residence, or believe that someone tried to enter your home or vehicle, and haven't reported it, are asked to also contact Laramie P.D.
