Lex Cornia Steps Down as Basketball Coach at Evanston
The Evanston Red Devils are in search of a new boys’ basketball head coach after Lex Cornia resigned his position.
The announcement came in a press release from Evanston High School Athletic Director Ruline O’Neill.
Cornia spent four seasons on the sidelines. He was 64-44 in his tenure with the Red Devils. Evanston qualified for the state tournament each year under Cornia’s leadership. Their best result was a third-place finish in 2018. The Red Devils went 12-14 during the 2019-2020 season and were at the state tournament when it was canceled earlier this month.
O’Neill said in the release, “We appreciate Coach Cornia’s dedication and commitment to the boys’ basketball program, as head coach over the last four years. Lex is a man of high character and is a well-respected educator. The positive example that he set for our student-athletes and staff transcends basketball. We all want to thank Coach Cornia for his contributions to our educational community.”
The search for a replacement is underway.
