The Laramie Police Department has dispelled a rumor circulating via text.

In a post to their official Facebook page, the LPD said that a random text message being distributed about an active shooter situation at different locations within the Laramie city limits was not true and that there is no threat.

“The PD has confirmed this information to be false and there are no current threats,” the post says.

In the post, the LPD asked residents not call dispatch with questions about this rumor unless there is an actual emergency.

Before the LPD posted the notice, Laramie Live contacted University of Wyoming  Spokesman Chad Baldwin and ACSD No. 1, who both confirmed that there was no active shooter situation, no lock down and that the information was false.
