Judge: Gillette Attorney Can Run for Weston County Office
NEWCASTLE, Wyo. (AP) — A Wyoming district judge has ordered that a Campbell County attorney's name be put on the primary election ballot for Weston County attorney.
Judge John G. Fenn ruled in favor of Gillette attorney Alex Berger, who had his application to be a candidate for county attorney denied by Weston County Clerk Jill Sellers.
Berger argued that the county clerk lacked a legal basis for refusing his application because there are no residency requirements in Wyoming laws or a requirement that the applicant be a registered voter in the county where the candidate seeks election.
Berger noted that the proper remedy to a residency issue would be for an individual to contest the election results.
The judge's ruling didn't make any findings as to Berger's qualifications.
