Josh Adams Earns All-MW, Player of the Year Honors
Wyoming senior guard Josh Adams has been named a consensus First Team All-Mountain West by both the media and coaches.
On Sunday, the media chose Adams as the MW Player of the Year and to the First Team All-Conference squad. Tuesday, the coaches saw fit to have Adams also earn All-MW First Team honors.
Adams said he was humbled to receive the media's Player of the Year accolade.
“It’s obviously an honor, especially with the guys who were in the running with me; like Marvelle Harris, Elijah Brown, James Webb; guys like that. You know, all guys that I think are tremendous players that will be playing at the next level. It’s definitely an honor to be up there with them”
Adams averaged 24.9 points per game this season to lead to the league and rank third in the NCAA. He has nine games with 30-or-more points and 21 with more than 20. His 722 points this season broke Wyoming’s single-season record of 701 by Flynn Robinson in 1964-65. Adams is second in single-season school history with 94 threes this season. He tied the school-record of nine 3-pointers in Wyoming’s win at Colorado State on Feb. 20.
Joining Adams on the coaches All-Conference First Team are Marvelle Harris of Fresno State; James Webb III of Boise State; New Mexico’s Elijah Brown and San Diego State’s Trey Kell.
Harris was voted Player of the Year by the league’s 11 head coaches.
The one difference between the media’s First Team All-Conference selections and the coaches was Tim Williams of New Mexico was voted by the media, compared to the Aztecs’ Kell.
Wyoming junior guard Jason McManamen received Honorable Mention All-Conference from both the coaches and media.
He contributed 14.1 points per game, which was tenth in the league. McManamen was one of the top three-point shooters in the nation. His team-high 45 percent beyond the arc ranked first in the MW and 10th in the NCAA, while his 3.0 threes per game are second and 25th, respectively.
