For the second straight year, outside hitter Jodi Purdy of the Wyoming Cowgirl volleyball team was selected to the 2012 AVCA Division I Honorable Mention All-America Team, announced on Wednesday, by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). It’s the first time school history that a player has been awarded All-American honors twice in her career.

The awards will be presented Dec. 14, 2012, in Louisville, Kentucky at the AVCA All-America/Players of the Year Banquet. The event is held in conjunction with the 2012 AVCA Convention.

Last week, Purdy along with seven others from the Mountain West (MW) were named to the AVCA All-West Region Team. During the 2012 season, she was selected to the All-Conference Team for the third year in a row while being named MW Freshman of the Year in 2009.  Purdy was named the preseason MW Co-Player of the Year, selected to the preseason All-MW team and earned MW Player of the Week honors once in 2012.

Purdy, a native of Winterset, Iowa, completed her career with the Cowgirls as the all-time leader in both kills (1,559) and digs (1,278) as well as second all-time in service aces (137). Purdy also ranks 12th all-time with 321 total blocks. Purdy is among the top 10 of four career categories in the MW. She finished second in career points (1,866.5), third in attacks (4,274), fourth in kills (1,559) and seventh in aces with 137. Purdy also leaves as the conference’s career leader in double-doubles with 61.

On the season, Purdy played and started all 32 matches and 117 sets. She finished ranked in the top 10 overall in the MW in three individual categories. In kills, Purdy finished fifth averaging 3.44 per set, with a total of 402 on the season which tied for the 12th-best single season in Cowgirl history. In points per set, she finished third averaging 4.21 per set. She also finished third in aces per game averaging 0.28 per set with 33 total on the season.

Other honorees from the Mountain West include Liz Harden (Boise State; Honorable Mention), Dana Cranston (CSU: Third Team), Brieon Paige (CSU: Honorable Mention), Megan Ploudre (CSU; Honorable Mention), Johnna Fouch (SDSU; Honorable Mention), Andrea Hannasch (SDSU; Honorable Mention) and Chantale Riddle (UNM; Honorable Mention)

The selections were made by the AVCA Division I All-America Committee: Santiago Restrepo, Oklahoma; Sherry Dunbar, Indiana; Lisa Seifert, Southern Methodist; Molly Alvey, Cincinnati; Jennifer Greeny, Washington State; Craig Skinner, Kentucky; Jeff Nelson, New Mexico; Tonya Johnson, Georgia Tech.  The AVCA Awards Chair is Dayton head volleyball coach Kelly Sheffield.
