A 51-year-old Kemmerer woman is facing charges of first-degree-murder and aggravated child abuse in connection with the recent death of a five-year-old girl.

That's according to a news release from the Kemmerer Police Department that was posted on its Facebook page.

According to the post, police were called to a home in Kemmerer on Friday afternoon on a report of an unresponsive child. When they got there, they found a five-year-old girl laying on a couch.

She was unresponsive, and EMS crews rushed to the home, performing live-saving measures. Meanwhile, police determined that the injuries to the child did not match the story they were being told about what had happened to her, and a criminal investigation was launched.

The girl was first taken to South Lincoln Medical Center for treatment and was then airlifted to Primary Children's Hospital in Utah. But she died from her injuries around 9 a.m. on Saturday.

Following her death and as a result of the police investigation, 51-year-old Cheri Lynn Marler was arrested for murder and aggravated child abuse. Police say the investigation into the case is active and ongoing.
