Rally "Not About Opposing Any Single Project"

Volk says the rally is "not about opposing any single project. It's about asking whether Wyoming is honestly confronting the cumulative impacts of the unprecedented industrial expansion now occurring across southeast Wyoming."

Volk is a local realtor and rancher. She and her husband own property near the site of the proposed Laramie Range Wind Project, and she has been a critic of that project.

Wind projects in general are a controversial topic in Wyoming, with many residents questioning their environment impacts, including their effect on bird populations and how to dispose of various components of the projects once they are no longer useful.

Some residents also see wind energy as a threat to Wyoming's traditional fossil fuels industries of oil, natural gas and coal. The energy industry has long been the backbone of Wyoming's economy, far outpacing other sectors of the economy. in terms of employment and tax revenues.

Some also consider the projects as eyesores.

But supporters see the windmills as environmentally friendly compared to traditional fossil fuels, and argue they could be a boon to the state economy.

Volk made the comments on the ''Weekend In Wyoming" program last Saturday on AM 650, KGAB. She also discussed the latest news on the Laramie Range Wind Project. You can hear that interview in the audio file below.
