Study Finds Wyoming Third In The Nation For Alcohol Deaths

A study by the telehealth and pharmacy website nowpatient says Wyoming had the third-highest per capita rate of alcohol-related deaths in the country in 2022.

In regard to alcohol deaths in Wyoming, the study had the following comments:

Wyoming recorded 35.4 alcohol-related deaths per 100,000 people in 2022, the third highest of all states in the US. Despite being the least populous state in the country, Wyoming has one of the highest levels of alcohol-related deaths.

The report quoted Novin Khosla, a pharmacist associated with Nowpatient as saying the following:

“Many people like to enjoy an alcoholic drink when socializing with friends and family or just to relax after a busy schedule. However, if alcohol becomes a frequent factor in your life then it can quickly escalate and become more of a problem which can have numerous effects on both your mental and physical health.

The average adult is advised not to drink more than 14 units of alcohol each week but for those who surpass this guideline, you may notice your health starting to deteriorate. Consuming large amounts of alcohol for a long period will increase the risk of organ damage, high blood pressure and cholesterol levels, weight gain and poor mental health.

Wyoming's neighboring states of South Dakota, Montana, and Colorado likewise made the top ten in the survey, ranking 4th, 5th, and 7th for alcohol-related deaths.

Wyoming also typically rates high for driving under the influence, ranking as high as first in some surveys in recent years. Other reports rank the Cowboy State anywhere between second and fourth in DUIs, but the state is virtually always in the top five.
