Cheyenne Frontier Days parade goers will see new street closures and vehicle barriers this year, the Cheyenne/Laramie County Emergency Management Agency announced Thursday.

Director Jeanine West says the changes are the result of a joint effort by the city, the CFD Parades Committee, her office, and other local partners to re-evaluate safety and security measures around all CFD events held downtown.

"After careful review, the city and other agencies determined more measures should be taken to secure the parade route, the staging area for parade entries, and adjacent roadways to the route from unwanted traffic," West said in a press release.

"The new closures, along with new vehicle barriers, are intended to help keep unauthorized vehicles from entering the parade route," she added.

West says the road closures (see map below) will begin at 8 a.m. and are expected to last approximately three hours.

She says the new barriers, which are designed to stop vehicles that disobey the road closures, are similar to existing barriers the city uses for events but are lighter and easier to move.

"Downtown businesses and patrons to those businesses should be aware of the closure area during parade mornings and plan accordingly," West said.

CFD Parades Closure Area

This year’s CFD Parades will have slight changes to the closure areas. This map provides a visual of where streets will be closed to all residents and visitors to give them the opportunity to plan their day.

Except for Lincolnway, ALL roads along the outer event perimeter will be closed to ALL traffic at 8:00 a.m.

Lincolnway will be closed no later than 8:45 a.m. to ALL traffic. Warren Ave., Pioneer Ave., and 15th Street will be open to traffic during parade closures.

The shaded red area on the map indicates where street parking will be prohibited during the parades. CFD No Parking signs will be placed in these areas prior to the first parade.

Towing in the no parking areas will begin at 7:30 a.m. All towed vehicles are taken, AT NO COST TO THE OWNER, to the tow lot located on E 15th Street by Bent Ave. and O’Neil Ave.

If spectators and participants decide to park in any of the private lots within the closure area, you will not be able to leave until local law enforcement clears the streets to be opened. Please take this into consideration when parking in these lots and understand that there will be a delay.
