Wyoming Highway 130 Through The Snowy Range Reopens
In a sure sign of summer. a seasonally-closed stretch of Wyoming Highway 130 through the Snowy Range is open again.
That's according to a Facebook post from WYDOT District 1.
The post says crews from Saratoga and Laramie began working to open the 12-mile stretch of road that was closed last month. The crews used rotary plows and similar heavy equipment to clear out the big snow drifts that were blocking the road.
According to the post "The highway is one of several high-elevation mountain roads in Wyoming that closes annually in late autumn when relatively low traffic and deep snow accumulations render plowing operations impractical. The scenic byway, which tops out at 10,800 feet in the Snowy Range, closed for the winter season on November 26."
Even though the road is now open, travelers should know that severe snowstorms, often featuring snow. are still possible. Such storms can pose travel hazards.
