How Drivers of Any Vehicle Can Drive Safe During High Winds:
The Nevada Department of Transportation recommends the following tips for driving during high winds:
- Keep both hands firmly on the wheel.
- Slow speeds as needed to compensate for blowing debris, snow, etc.
- Maintain a safe following distance.
- Be ready to make corrections - wind gusts can push you out of your lane.
- If winds are severe enough to prevent safe driving, pull over into a safe parking area (the shoulder of a busy roadway is not safe) and stop, making sure you are away from trees, power lines or other tall objects that could fall onto your vehicle.
