Cheyenne, Laramie, Slightly Warmer And Dryer Than Typical October
Figures from the Cheyenne Office of the National Weather Service show that Cheyenne and Laramie were slightly warmer and a little dryer than usual last month.
Both communities were only slightly dryer than is normal, but the difference would have been greater had it not been for a storm that passed through on October. 28-29.
The agency posted the following on its website:
Here's a look back at October weather across our area! 🌡️ Most of the month was rather warm, but the potent cold snap for the last 6 days of the month cancelled out much of the earlier warmth, resulting in slightly below normal temperatures for most of western Nebraska, and slightly above normal temperatures for southeast Wyoming. Several locations were on track for a top 10 warmest October for the first 25 days, but fell well behind this after the bitter cold at the end of the month. 🌧️ Precipitation was generally near normal for most areas, but areas along and north of US Highway 20 were well above normal thanks to the strong storm that came through on October 11-13. Chadron saw its wettest October day on record on October 12th with 2.00" of rain! The month as a whole ended up the 6th wettest on record. Douglas recorded 2.87" precipitation in October which was the wettest since 1999 (when records began). ❄️ Thanks to the warmth for most of the month, snowfall was generally below normal. The official snow observing sites at Cheyenne and Scottsbluff were both slightly below normal, with all accumulation coming in the single event on October 28-29. 💨 The winds weren't too bad last month, but the strong mid month storm lead to a 61 MPH gust at Sidney!
