Red Cross Hosting Disaster Recovery Assistance Center In Cheyenne
The American Red Cross has announced that it is opening a disaster recovery assistance center in Cheyenne this week to help qualifying people who were affected by the brutal wind storm that wreaked havoc in Cheyenne last Thursday and Friday.
The center will be open from 1-5 p.m. on March 17 and 19th at the Salvation Army of Cheyenne at 601 East 20th Street.
No appointment is needed to visit the disaster center.
According to a Red Cross News Release:
"Anyone affected by the disaster can receive Disaster Action Team assistance from the Red Cross, including health, mental health, spiritual care and casework services. Those with major damage or destroyed property may also be eligible for financial assistance."
Winds that gusted up over 90 miles per hour downed trees, destroyed fences, damaged roofs and siding on homes and caused a wide range of property damage across Cheyenne, Laramie County. and much of southeast Wyoming.
Damage extended into the City of Laramie as well as rural Albany County. Janet Lewis of the Red Cross told Townsquare Media "We are intending it for Laramie County residents, since they seem the hardest hit. But residents from other counties are also welcome.
Residents from other states would need to connect with their own geographical Red Cross chapter.
While damage estimates are not yet available, Cheyenne Mayor Patrick Collins has said that in Cheyenne alone "Our Forestry team spent the day cleaning up over 50 trees that were blown across roads and Cheyenne Fire Rescue responded to over 173 calls. The Cheyenne Police Department was very busy responding to 290 calls."
