According to a fatality crash summary, 26-year-old Eduardo Castro was behind the wheel of a westbound diesel tanker when he failed to negotiate a right-hand curve and went off the interstate, crossing through the median cable barrier.

Castro reportedly tried to correct his rig to the right, but he ended up laying it over on its passenger side, and a large amount of fuel spilled into the median.

Castro was not wearing his seat belt and died from his injuries.

The summary says it was raining and the interstate was wet at the time of the crash.

Castro is the 125th person to die on Wyoming's highways in 2023, compared to 119 in 2022, 103 in 2021, 118 in 2020, and 136 in 2019 to date; and the 30th person to die in an I-80 crash in the state so far this year.
