PhotoFest Review: State Soccer
The State Soccer Tournaments were held in Rock Springs and Green River back in May and a couple of 3A teams found the top of the podium yet again. Worland 3-peated as the boys champions with a 3-1 win over Douglas in the title match. The Warriors have won state championships in 5 of the last 6 years and went 15-0-1. Douglas concluded the season at 7-8. Cody downed Torrington for 3rd place 1-0 as Cody wrapped up the season 13-4 and Torrington went 8-7. Green River placed 5th with a 5-1 win over Lander. The Wolves had a nice season at 12-3 with Lander finishing at 7-9. Buffalo and Powell went 0-2 in the State Tournament with Powell finishing the year at 10-5 and Buffalo at 5-9.
In the 3A girls bracket, Cody repeated as the state champion with a 4-0 victory over Worland. The Broncs ran the table going 17-0 and that's not easy to do. Worland was 13-3-1 this past season. Buffalo edged Lander 1-0 for 3rd place as Buffalo posted an 8-7 record in 2023 and Lander was 9-7. Douglas defeated Powell 6-3 for 5th place and the Bearcats had a nice season at 12-3 and Powell wrapped things up at 9-7. Mountain View and Rawlins went 0-2 at State with Mountain View concluding the season at 7-8 and Rawlins going 3-11
Over in 4A boys, Thunder Basin made it to the top of the mountain with a grueling 1-0 win over Cheyenne Central for all the marbles. That was the first title for the Bolts and they were 14-5-1 on the year while Central turned in a strong season as well, finishing at 16-3. Sheridan nipped Kelly Walsh for 3rd 2-1 and Sheridan turned in a 14-4-2 season while KW was equally sharp at 16-2. Jackson beat Star Valley for 5th 6-1 as the Broncs were 15-4 on the year and Star Vallet was 6-12-2. Natrona and Laramie went 0-2 in the state tournament as NC was 6-11-2 and Laramie ended the year at 6-9-2.
The Kelly Walsh girls won the 4A championship with a hard-earned 2-0 win over Jackson. That was KW's first state title since 2006 and finished the year with a 16-5 record while Jackson ended the year at 14-5. Thunder Basin had a hard-earned 2-1 win over Cheyenne East for 3rd place. The Bolts were a remarkable 17-1-1 in 2023 while East finished at 12-8. Laramie took 5th place with a 3-0 win over Sheridan to finish 13-4-1. Sheridan was 7-13 on the year. Riverton and Natrona went 0-2 in the State Tournament with Riverton going 13-5-1 and NC concluded the campaign at 11-7-1.
