Wyoming Girls Take 14th Place at Junior Americas Cup Tournament
The Wyoming girls posted their best-ever finish at the Junior America’s Cup golf tournament in Canada on Thursday.
Samantha Spielman from Sheridan, Greybull’s Erika Cook, Isabell Salas of Green River, and Wheatland’s Lily Nichols comprised the Wyoming squad that competed at the Nk’Mip Golf Course in Oliver, British Columbia, Canada.
As a team, Wyoming took 14th out of the 18 squads. That was their highest finish at this event. They finished with a team total of 749 or 101-over par. Hawai’i won the event at 13-over par.
Spielman finished tied for 36th place in the field of 72 golfers. She shot rounds of 84, 73, and 83. Spielman came in a 24-over par or a 240 total for the 54-hole event.
Cook shot 26-over par or a 242 total for the three days. She tied for 42nd place after rounds of 82, 75, and 85. Salas placed 68th in the field at 51-over par (267), and Nichols took 70th at 63-over par (279).
Next year’s event will be in Utah.
The high school golf season is less than two weeks away in Wyoming. The first practice is on August 7, and the first tournaments are on August 9-12, 2023.
