Champion Golfers, Cross-Country Star Claim WyoPreps Athlete of the Week Honors [VIDEOS]
Two champion golfers and an elite cross-country runner earned the WyoPreps Athlete of the Week awards. Brown and Moniz were the medalists at the Class 4A golf state championships last weekend in Cheyenne. Cranney was victorious at a big cross-country race in Oregon. WyoPreps reviewed performances from the competition week of September 15-20 and chose these three student-athletes. Previous weeks are not part of the decision.
WYOPREPS ATHLETE OF THE WEEK WINNERS 9-24-25
Girls’ Winner
Brown captured the Class 4A girls’ golf state championship last Saturday in Cheyenne at the Airport Golf Course. She fired rounds of 80 and 79 for a two-day total of 159. Brown was the only golfer with a sub-80 round in the field. She also helped Evanston win its second consecutive 4A girls’ team title.
WyoPreps visited with Madison about her play at the state championships. She felt good about both days except for a few holes at the end of round one, described the feeling of being a state champ when the final putt went in, discussed her approach to the course, and more.

Boys’ Winners
Cranney won the boys’ varsity gold division at The Mook XC Invite at Alderbrook in Tillamook, OR, last Saturday. He finished first with a time of 14:50.2. That is the fastest 5K time for a Wyoming runner this year by 17 seconds. He was the top runner in a field of 165. With Colton’s help, Star Valley took second in the division as a team.
WyoPreps caught up with Colton to discuss his performance. He described the feeling he had after the victory, the atmosphere at the race, his race strategy, and more.
Moniz won the Class 4A boys’ golf state championship at the Airport Golf Course in Cheyenne by two shots. He fired rounds of 69 and 70 and finished at 1-under-par. Carson was the only golfer under par and finished with a two-round total of 139. He became the third Laramie High golfer to win an individual state title. Moniz helped the Plainsmen take second in the team standings.
WyoPreps spoke to Carson about his win. He discussed how he played, what it felt like after his final putt, knowing he was a state champ, how he approached the two days, and more.
