Law Enforcement to Crack Down on Drunk Drivers During Border War

One of college football's oldest rivalries will take place this Friday, Nov. 3, when the Wyoming Cowboys play host to the Colorado State Rams in the 115th edition of the Border War.

In an effort to keep traveling football fans safe, law enforcement from Wyoming and Colorado will once again be teaming up to sideline impaired drivers.

Wyoming Highway Patrol Lt. Kyle McKay says coordinated enforcement efforts will take place in Wyoming's Albany and Laramie counties and Colorado's Larimer and Weld counties before, during, and after the game, which kicks off at 6 p.m.

"More than 1 million drivers are arrested in the U.S. every year for impaired driving and 27 people die every day from impaired driver crashes,” Col. Tim Cameron said in a news release.

According to WHP data, there have been 119 fatalities on Wyoming's highways so far this year compared to 113 in 2022, 94 in 2021, 115 in 2020, and 132 in 2019 to date.

“When traveling on Wyoming’s roadways make good decisions and find a designated sober driver," said Cameron. "Law enforcement will continue to enforce impaired driving with zero tolerance.”

Football fans can also help with the gameday enforcement efforts by calling the Report Every Drunk Driver Immediately (REDDI) hotline at 1-800-442-9090 to report suspected drunk drivers.

McKay says callers should be prepared to provide the dispatcher with a description of the vehicle, its location, and the direction of travel.

Law enforcement agencies in Laramie and Albany counties made 108 traffic stops and four arrests during last year's Border War Impaired Driving Enforcement Operation.
