The Laramie Farmers’ Market keeps expanding exponentially every year. New vendors, new goods, services, and products are available for Laramites to peruse and purchase.

The 2023 market has 146 applicants at this point, with more expected throughout the season. This is Kayla Matlock’s third year managing the farmers’ market. The market administrator said she has started each season with the number of applicants that she ended the previous year with.

“It's been fantastic seeing that growth, and I'm expecting more applicants as the season goes on and new businesses are created. I love seeing our community get so excited about their new ventures and helping bridge that gap.”

Managing the large volume of vendor applications means taking a strategic approach.

“Priority typically ranges from seniority in being at our market, if the business is local or regional if they are a business looking to expand into downtown, and if the product is made by or grown by the individual,” said Matlock.

The focus on community is another main priority of Matlock’s. The Market should be accessible to everyone, regardless of income. Thanks to a grant from the Albany County American Rescue Plan Act, SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits are not only accepted but doubled at each market.

“I really like to emphasize and expand fresh foods, packaged foods, and produce vendors as much as possible since we do have the SNAP program as an option for our community to have access to locally sourced and nutritious foods”

While quantity is good, quality is always the goal. Matlock emphasizes diversity when selecting vendors and chooses them with the same care she chooses the food vendors.

“Having a nice balance of artists, household goods, and vendors of that nature are also a huge part of our market. I really like to have diverse vendors that can make more products and unique items that showcase our community members' talents and elevate them economically.”

The market begins this Friday at the Train Depot parking lot. It runs 3-7 p.m. every Friday, with the exception of July 7 for Jubilee Days.
