The Wildlife In Yellowstone Goes Way Beyond Bison And Bears

When visitors to Wyoming's National Parks think about the exciting things they will see, it's likely that the first things that come to mind are bison, bears, wolves, moose, deer, and antelope. Sure, those are what you hear about the most.

You don't hear too many stories that begin with a park visitor being attacked by a squirrel, a family losing their RV to a lodge of beavers, or a man being mauled by a long-tailed weasel. That's usually because the average park visitor wants the superstar animals in the park and forgets about their little buddies.

In Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks, there are over 60 species of mammals. I know, right? That's way more than the ones that cause the highly documented animal traffic jams.

When you see the traffic jams, you're certainly going to see the professional photographers standing around right with everyone else.

Those photographers have a great job. They get to be in the park looking for great photo opportunities all day, and I'm happy that they do. If you think about the total area that the park covers, there's no way that you can see it all, or even ever get the unique animal encounter that everyone hopes for.

I've followed Matt's adventures on social media, and he recently posted some of his captures of some of the less "Hollywood" species that live in the park and showed how photogenic they are.
