Awesome Places The Kids Will Love Visiting In Wyoming
People travel long distances to visit Wyoming. They'll load up the kids and head out on, for some, a once-in-a-lifetime vacation to the Cowboy State. If families with kids don't plan, there's a possibility the kids may be bored for some parts of the trip.
The good news is that there are many places to go and things to do that are kid-friendly, fun, educational, and an excellent time for everyone.
Elisa Wharton is based in Laramie. She takes her family on many adventures around Wyoming and documents them on the Wandering_Whartons social media pages. She's put together a couple of lists of excellent places and ideas for the kids.
Pole Mountain- located between Laramie and Cheyenne is a great place for outdoor recreation any time of the year. We have been enjoying the sledding hill at Happy Jack and the ski area at Tie City.
Cheyenne Botanical Gardens- a free experience in Cheyenne. There is an amazing indoor garden and center and outdoors is a kids garden and play center. You can make music, play with water and just explore for a couple well spent outdoor hours.
️ Grand Teton- the most beautiful national park ever (imo ) There are many kid friendly hikes here as well as lots of animal sightings.
Dinosaur tracksite- this is tucked away in the badlands area. It’s a quick stop but also very interesting and fun for little ones who love dinosaurs
Vedauwoo- This recreation area is located between Laramie and Cheyenne. It has many great trails and campsites, but the best part is climbing the massive granite rocks.
Flaming Gorge- This reservoir spans two states Wyoming and Utah. It is great for fishing and boating. Beware there were quite a few rattlesnakes in the area.
Glendo State Park- this state park has a Sandy beach, cliff jumping and great fishing. We camped here for a couple days this past summer and enjoyed the layer back atmosphere
Ayer’s Natural Bridge- this is a great stop outside of Douglas Wyoming. The kids will have fun playing under the bridge on a hot day.
Curt Gowdy State Park- This park has 3 reservoirs filled with great fishing and boating. This year they added “Little house on the Park” which is a cute kids cabin filled with kids activities and crafts.
Alcova Reservoir- This giant Reservoir outside of Casper has great fishing and Sandy beaches along the edge.
Saratoga Hobo Hot Springs- These natural hot springs are located in the river right beside the Saratoga Hot Springs. I prefer these for the kids bc they are shallow and they have different temp pools so the kids don’t get to hot.
