Denniston Announces Wyoming Swim & Dive Schedule

LARAMIE -- University of Wyoming swimming and diving head coach Dave Denniston announced the 2023-24 schedule Tuesday. The slate features a good mixture of duals, tri-meets and invitationals that’ll prepare UW for the championship portion of its schedule.
“Overall, it’s going to be a great season,” Denniston said. “The second half of the season is our standard, going down to UNLV and then going to Pharr and Houston for the conference championships. That’s something that will be familiar. There are some little twists and different events that we’ll have in the fall that will overall bode well for our competitive season.”
The 2023-24 year begins with the Horsetooth Open Water Swim on Sept. 10. The annual Brown & Gold Meet followed by the Brown, Gold & Old Meet takes place during the last weekend of September.
Five duals follow the intra-squad competition and four of those are in Laramie. The Cowgirls host Colorado State on Oct. 6, while both teams battle Colorado School of Mines and Colorado Mesa at home Oct. 28 and Nov. 3, respectively. The Cowgirls close out the home stretch Nov. 4 against Northern Colorado.
A couple invitationals proceed winter break. The Colorado Mesa Invitational and Missouri Invite run concurrently Nov. 15-18 with the swimmers participating in Grand Junction and the divers going to Columbia.
A tri-meet at Denver, which also features BYU, kicks off the spring-semester portion of the schedule Jan. 12 and 13. The Cowboys travel to Green River for an outreach meet against Utah on Jan. 19.
The Cowgirls go to New Mexico on Jan. 20 and both teams travel to UNLV the following weekend for their final dual of the season. The Air Force Diving Invite from Jan. 31-Feb. 3 and the DU First Chance Meet on Feb. 9 and 10 conclude the regular season.
The Cowgirls travel to the Mountain West Conference Championships from Feb. 21-24 in Houston, Texas. The Cowboys travel to the Pharr, Texas, for the Western Athletic Conference Championships from Feb. 28-March 2.
“I think there are some great opportunities on our schedule,” Denniston said. “Being able to race quite a bit in our home pool – especially against schools like CSU who we have a good rivalry with – is exciting. On the other end, what we’ve been trying to do for a while is continuing to build a relationship with Utah and have a meet over in Green River. It’ll be fun to branch out and race a PAC 12 team again.”
