It was a tough start to the 2016 high school golf season for Laramie, as both squads finished in the middle of the pack at the Cheyenne Invitational.

The Lady Plainsmen came in fourth place after a 912 total over 36 holes. Kelly Walsh won the girls team title with a score of 720. That was 22 strokes better than Scottsbluff, NE.

Senior Amanda Warren carded a 181 and finished in seventh place. Shelby Poynter of Scottsbluff was the medalist with a 149, a 14 stroke victory.

The Plainsmen ended up fifth. They fired a two-day total of 697. The Trojans completed the team sweep, as KW fired a 607 last Thursday and Friday at the Airport Golf Course.

Junior Colby Clay fired a 164 and came in 16th place. The boys’ medalist was Central’s Jared Edeen, who won by 10 strokes with a 140 total.

Laramie heads to Douglas for their next action on the links Thursday and Friday.
