Injured Skier Rescued from Centennial Ridge
Members of the Albany County Sheriff’s Search & Rescue team helped get an injured skier off of Centennial Ridge over the weekend.
The name of the injured man has not been released. His condition is unknown.
The Albany County Sheriff’s Office reported the incident at 1:38 p.m. Sunday. .
Search & Rescue President Dan Hutchison says his 12-member team used snowshoes to reach the scene where members of the Centennial Valley Volunteer Fire Department had placed the injured skier in a toboggan.
Undersheriff Robert DeBree said the man had suffered a spiral fracture of the lower leg and was becoming hypothermic when first responders arrived.
The injured man was transferred into a litter and taken downhill through trees and sagebrush to a waiting Cheyenne Regional Medical Center helicopter, which departed at about 4 p.m. It was not immediately clear where the injured man was taken for treatment.
Hutchison says the man was evidently doing some backcountry skiing when he was injured.
According to a post on the Search & Rescue Facebook page, the Snowy Range Ski Patrol and Medicine Bow Nordic Ski Patrol also assisted in the rescue effort.
