The Laramie City Council held a meeting Tuesday evening and unanimously agreed to renew the Laramie Rifle Range Corporation's (LRRC) annual $10 lease for the next 15 years. The LRRC has leased the rifle range north of town since 1986.

The Laramie Rifle Range Corporation acquired the property from Union Pacific Railroad who donated it to the city. Besides the renewed lease, the LRRC also recently completed improvements to the property. Improvements include graded roads, a paved parking lot and functional bathroom facilities, raised berm heights and improved long-range firing lines at 800, 900 and 1,000 yards.

The overall costs for the improvements could have cost hundreds of thousands of dollars but thanks to volunteer work and a donation from the city of Laramie only about $2,500 was spent. The City of Laramie was gracious enough to donate the asphalt used for the parking lot which saved approximately $10,000-$12,000.

The Laramie Rifle Range Corporation is operated solely by volunteers and offers memberships to the public. Membership fees range from $30-$100 and help cover annual maintenance and insurance costs.
