Grillers will compete for their chance at cash, a trophy, and bragging rights in Laramie on Saturday, July 19. The Ivinson Memorial Hospital Foundation Griller’s Cup takes place at the UW parking lot at 30th and Willett and goes from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The public is invited to attend from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and sample BBQ, grilled sides, and desserts. There is no entry fee to attend the event. However, BBQ bucks are required to sample the food. One dollar equals one BBQ Buck, and they are sold in $10 increments. After purchasing BBQ Bucks, you have the chance to use them in a carnival style method to purchase samples of the fare.

The competition features divisions for Amateur/Backyard BBQ and the Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS). Awards will be provided for each category of meat and there will be a Special Sauce Award. Both divisions will be ran consecutively. No same day registration will be accepted for competitors. All judging is done by KCBS certified judges.

Categories include ribs, chicken, pork and brisket. Category prizes are awarded in each for the KCBS division with payout to the first five places, and ribbons are awarded to the top ten. Cash prizes for categories range from $300 to $100.

The grand prize is awarded $2000 and a trophy. The reserve prize is awarded $1000 and a trophy. There is a total of $7000 in prizes provided by the Wyoming BBQ Association.

In addition to a BBQ lunch, the event provides activities for the kids as well. Kids can play with bubbles, pounce in two inflatable bounce houses, draw on the sidewalks with chalk, sport temporary tattoos or get their faces painted.

The BBQ cook-off benefits the IMH Foundation’s Sandy Joy/Kris Kramschuster Healthcare Education Scholarship. This ensures there will be funds available to help IMH’s staff continue their education.
