High School Rodeo Makes Spring Debut in Laramie [AUDIO]

The high school rodeo circuit for Wyoming starts its spring run this weekend by making its first stop in Laramie. Action will take place Saturday and Sunday at Hansen Arena.

Competitors from across the state will compete in 11 different events this weekend.

Laramie enjoys the distinction of being the only rodeo stop on the regular season schedule with a prime-time performance. That will take place at 7 p.m. Saturday. Tickets for the performance are $4 ahead of time and are available at Murdoch's. They are also available at the door for $5.

The rodeo actually starts with slack at 9 a.m. Saturday and continues at 8 a.m. Sunday. This part of the rodeo is free to watch.

The 2013-14 high school rodeo season began last fall with stops in Wheatland, Lander and Jackson. The points earned at those three rodeos carry over to the spring portion of the season--a competitor just picks up after the long winter break. The schedule takes contestants all over the state for the next two months and wraps up with the State Finals in Douglas June 11-14.

The top four scorers in each event at the conclusion of the State Finals will represent Wyoming at the National High School Finals Rodeo in Rock Springs this July.

After the fall rodeos, local Laramie High School rodeo club member Kane Butcher leads the steer wrestling standings, while Blare Romsa is sitting seventh. Romsa is also fourth in the bull riding. Rylie Gardner is just outside the top 10 in barrel racing.
