A murder trial entered its second day Tuesday in Laramie.

On Monday Dec. 9th,  jurors heard opening statements in the second-degree murder trial of Tim Harnden. Prosecutor Joshua Merseal told jurors that it was his responsibility to prove that Harnden had malicious intent when he fatally stabbed and Paul Hamilton.

In his opening remarks, Harnden's attorney, Vaughn Neubauer, highlighted Paul Hamilton's violent nature, pointing out that his wife has been a victim of his anger. It was also mentioned that Hamilton had a blood alcohol content of .182 at the time of his death.

The defense attorney said Harnden sent a text message to Hamilton, claiming to have had sexual relations with Mrs. Hamilton. During testimony, Carol Hamilton denied having a sexual relationship with Harnden. On the night of the murder, officers confiscated the phones of Mrs. Hamilton and Tim Harnden. Selected text messages between the two will be read in court today.
