Greg Phillips Sworn In As Attorney General

Greg Phillips was sworn in as Wyoming’s 35^th Attorney General today. Chief Justice of the Wyoming Supreme Court, Marilyn Kite, administered the oath and presided over the proceeding. The Wyoming Senate confirmed General Phillips earlier this month.

General Phillips is a 50-year old Evanston native. He has a bachelor's degree and law degree from the University of Wyoming. He will oversee the Office of the Attorney General, which has over 250 staff. At the swearing in, General Phillips thanked the over 200 people in attendance. He added that it is a significant experience to be in the historic Supreme Court building and be the next Attorney General. Phillips also thanked the previous Attorney General, Bruce Salzburg, who remained in office during the legislative session and helped with the transition.

Governor Matt Mead appointed General Phillips. The two have known each other since law school; they were also in private practice together and worked together when Governor Mead was U.S. Attorney. Governor Mead said there was only one person he considered for this position and thanked him for accepting.

“You are a brilliant attorney, you are a hard working attorney, you are an ethical attorney, you have the rare breed of having all the brilliance and unlimited common sense and on top of that Greg, you are a good man and that goes a long ways in my book,” Governor Mead said.

Also speaking at the event were Supreme Court Justice, William Hill, a former Wyoming Attorney General and U.S. District Judge Alan Johnson. General Phillips was a law clerk for Judge Johnson from 1987 to 1989.
