Governor Mead:Concerned About U.S./China CO2 Agreement

Governor Matt Mead says he has concerns about a recently announced U.S.-China agreement setting targets for CO2 emissions out to the year 2030.

Under the agreement signed earlier this month, China pledges to reach peak emissions of global greenhouse gases by 2030 and also to increase its reliance on non-fossil fuels to 20 percent of its total energy. For its part, the United States committed to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions in 2025 by 26 percent to 28 percent from 2005 levels.

It is sort of the United States making promises and China saying if we can we will. So if you look at the air quality in the U.S. versus China, we are doing a lot better than China is doing.

The governor says U.S./China agreement and the proposed EPA rules on carbon emissions are putting the United State at an economic disadvantage.
