ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Prosecutors could legally continue to pursue a domestic violence case against George Zimmerman if they wanted, despite a signed affidavit from his girlfriend asking them not to.

Zimmerman presented the affidavit to a judge Monday as part of a request to change the terms of his bond so he can have contact with girlfriend Samantha Scheibe. A hearing on the motion will be held later.

Lynne Bumpus Hooper is a spokeswoman for the State Attorney's Office. She said in an email Monday that prosecutors can and have gone on in domestic cases without the victim's cooperation.

But she also said a case becomes more difficult to prove if prosecutors don't have a victim's testimony or if the victim is the only witness.
