The General Election is upon us once again, and there are some things Albany County voters may need to know before heading to the polls.

Many people wonder what they need to do if they want to make changes to their voter registration. Changes such as voter affiliation and address changes can be made right at the polling place. If you are making a change, you must bring a photo ID and stop at the voter registration table at your polling place before receiving the ballot. For those who have recently moved, visit the polling place for your new residence and stop at the voter registration table to change your address before receiving a ballot.

Those who would like to register to vote for the first time in Wyoming can do so at the polling place on Election Day. Wyoming is one of only 11 states that accepts Election Day registration. Citizens who will be 18 years of age on Election Day, are residents of Wyoming, not convicted of a felony (or have voting rights restored), and who are not adjudicated mentally incompetent may register to vote.

Those registering to vote in Albany County have options on identification they must provide. They can bring their valid Wyoming Driver’s license. If they cannot provide a Wyoming Driver’s license, a license from another state, ID card issued by local, state or federal government agency, U.S. passport, school ID card with photograph, or a military ID card can be accepted.

If any of these forms of ID cannot be presented, a combination of two of the following may be used: certification of U.S. citizenship, certificate of naturalization, draft record, voter registration card from another state or county, original or certified copy of a birth certificate bearing an official seal, certification of birth abroad by the Department of State, any other form of identification issued by an official agency.

Polls are open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. at all polling places in the county. The courthouse is not a polling place the day of the primary election. Any absentee ballots must be dropped off at the courthouse, not at a polling place. Ballots will be accepted through the mail until 7 p.m.

We will provide updates for election results on our website. In addition, the Albany County website will provide updates on their website as well.

One common question that comes to light during every election is that of where to vote. The county provides a simple way for people to find their polling place. You can find your polling place by visiting the Albany County website and clicking on the Polling Place Locator on the home page. You can then type in your residential address and click ‘Get Directions’. The locator will provide you with your polling place along with a map and written directions of how to get there. In addition, you will be provided with sample ballots so you know what to expect when you go to the polls.

See the video below for a tutorial on how to locate your polling place.
