Game and Fish Seeking Information On Mule Deer Poached At Table Mountain Estates

The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is pleading for information about a buck mule deer illegally shot the night of March 3 or early morning March 4 in the Table Mountain Estates northwest of Cheyenne.

A buck mule deer was seen alive at 671 North Table Mountain Loop at 4 to 4:30 p.m. March 3 and then discovered dead at the same location with its head removed in the early afternoon the next day. A concerned citizen reported the crime to the Game and Fish March 4 – but before game wardens were able to respond the next morning, the headless carcass had been removed from the crime scene.

“I believe the persons responsible got nervous about the evidence there and came back and removed the carcass Friday night,” said Laramie County Game Warden Shawn Blajszczak. “The violators shot near homes in the area and appears they knew the schedules of residents to pull off the crime without being noticed.”

Table Mountain Estates is approximately 25 miles northwest of Cheyenne and can be reached by Laramie County Road 19 north off of Happy Jack Road (Wyo Hwy 210) or south off of Horse Creek Road (Wyo Hwy 211).

Anyone who may have any information about the crime – even if it’s second hand – should call the Game and Fish Department.

For killing a buck deer out of season and leaving it to waste, the violator could face up to a $10,000 fine, one year in jail and a 10-year suspension of hunting/fishing license privileges.

“If the violators come forward the judge may take that into account when handing down the sentence,” Blajszczak said.

He adds callers may be eligible for a cash reward if the information leads to a conviction and can remain anonymous. Report information to the Stop Poaching Hotline at (877) WGFD-TIP.

“So even close acquaintances to the violator who are disturbed about the crime can call without being revealed,” he said.
