Gallagher Show in Laramie Canceled Over Offensive Content
LARAMIE, WYO. (AP) -- Comedian Leo Gallagher, who is best known for smashing watermelons, will not be performing in Laramie after residents claimed he makes racist and homophobic remarks in his show.
The 70-year-old Gallagher had been scheduled to perform at the Gryphon Theatre as part of his 70th birthday bash tour.
Civic Center Executive Director Melissa Daniele says she stands by the decision to cancel the show due to claims that Gallagher makes offensive remarks in his act.
The comedian says he has never had a show canceled for claims that he is offensive and that he believes the positive comments of the majority of his fans should outweigh the claims of a few. He says his shows are not racist or homophobic.
