A post to Laramie Live’s Facebook page on Thursday morning caused some concern about a possible danger to the University of Wyoming,  but it was determined to be a threat of low credibility.

On the morning of Thursday, March 19, an individual posted to Laramie Live’s Facebook page in reference to the university.

The wording of the post caused some concern about a possible bomb threat, and it was reported to authorities immediately. Officials at the Albany County Sheriff’s Office have requested that the exact wording of the post not be released.

Further investigation by Laramie Live staff revealed that the profile for the individual who posted showed the person’s residence as being in Pakistan and showed no clear connection to Laramie or the University of Wyoming.

Several law enforcement agencies were involved in the investigation including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Albany County Sheriff’s Office, Laramie Police Department and the University of Wyoming Police Department.

Albany County Undersheriff Robert DeBree says the investigation was ultimately taken over by the FBI, and they determined it to be of low credibility. DeBree says that all threats are taken seriously and investigated thoroughly. He added that local law enforcement does not believe this to be a danger to the University of Wyoming or the community.

In a release from the University of Wyoming, the University also confirmed the threat and low credibility of it. Still, in the release UW Police Chief Mike Samp encourages members of the campus community to stay vigilant and report any suspicious packages or vehicles on or near campus to the UW Police Department. UW Police can be reached at 766-5179.
