Ducks Dominate Cowboys 49-13 [VIDEO]
After overcoming two early fumbles, the Oregon Ducks rolled past the Wyoming Cowboys 49-13 Saturday night in Laramie.
Royce Freeman ran for 157 yards and three touchdowns, while Justin Herbert threw for 251 yards with one TD pass, and he added a TD run.
UW head coach Craig Bohl visited with the media after the game and took full responsibility for the Cowboys poor performance, particularly on offense.
Oregon (3-0) took a 14-0 lead after their first two possessions. Freeman scored on runs of 1-yard and 3-yards.
Wyoming (1-2) took advantage of a mishandled punt for their first score. QB Josh Allen raced 10 yards to the end-zone. A sack and forced fumble by Carl Granderson was recovered by Kevin Prosser on the next series. The Pokes settled for a Cooper Rothe 30-yard field goal that cut it to 14-10.
The Ducks responded with a 14 play, 75-yard drive capped by Herbert’s TD run from 9-yards out. It was part of a 28-point outburst by Oregon in the second quarter. Herbert tossed a 20-yard TD pass to Taj Griffin. The Ducks scored twice in the final minute of the first half. Freeman’s third score was on another 1-yard run. Oregon scored 17 seconds later when Kani Benoit ran it in from 2-yards out. That came after Allen was hit and fumbled on a scramble. Tyree Robinson picked it up and returned it 30 yards. It was 42-10 at halftime.
The Cowboys scored the only points of the third quarter on Rothe’s 42-yard field goal. Oregon finished the scoring with a Benoit 4-yard run early in the fourth.
The Ducks piled up 558 yards on 95 offensive plays. They finished with 307 yards rushing and 251 through the air.
Wyoming was held to 183 yards on offense. Allen went only 9-24 for just 64 yards. He was sacked twice and intercepted once. Milo Hall ran for 43 yards, while Trey Wood had 42. Andrew Wingard led the defense with 14 tackles with 2.5 tackles for loss and one sack. Logan Wilson added 11 tackles with two for loss.
The Pokes continue their four-game home-stand with their Mountain West opener next Saturday against the Hawai’i Rainbow Warriors. Kick-off from War Memorial Stadium is at 8:15 p.m.
