JACKSON, Wyo. (AP) - The school district in Jackson has banned dogs from school campuses including some popular public pathways that cross school grounds.

Many Jackson dog owners are unhappy and say it's much ado about nothing.

School officials say there are too many dogs running loose, but the real problem is too much dog poop on school property.

School district facilities director Kevin Thibeault says officials tried working with dog owners but problems increased rather than decreased.

Dog trainer Thomas Mikkelsen meanwhile says the ban will be an inconvenience for dog owners who use pathways across school property.  Mikkelsen says school officials took the easy way out when there are options to encourage people to clean up after their dogs.
