The "May Mobilization" by Wyoming Highway Patrol Troopers led to a fatality free weekend on Wyoming highways for the first time since 2006. A statewide message about the importance of seat belt and child restraint use was enforced by Troopers and leading the way were Troopers from District #1, Division 'H', in Rawlins, who received an award from Safety & Training Sergeant Duan Ellis.

On average, each Trooper in division 'H' wrote 21 citations for violations of the seat belt and child restraint law during the holiday enforcement period. The Division led the State for the number of violations cited during the safety campaign.

Wyoming state law requires all occupants in a motor vehicle to use a seat belt and children under age nine must be in a child safety seat. Of the 153 fatalities in the State of Wyoming during FY 2010, 76 or 49.67 percent were not utilizing safety belts. A survey shows that Wyoming currently has a 78.9 percent seat belt usage rate according to the Wyoming Highway Patrol.
