Did Wyoming’s Xavier DuSell put a hex on David Roddy?

LARAMIE -- That Xavier DuSell is one sneaky guy.

Tied at 70-70, David Roddy toed the free-throw line with a chance to give Colorado State a one-point lead with just 1.7 ticks remaining in regulation. The junior from Minneapolis drained the first one with ease, despite shooting in the direction of a raucous Wyoming student section, hushing the 7,500-plus inside the Arena-Auditorium.

Roddy, who finished the night with a team-leading 23 points, tapped his chest and pointed skyward after the make.

There was still one to go. A big one.

While CSU was busy making substitutions, Roddy stood at the top of the key, hands on hips. That's when Wyoming's guard worked his magic.

"I'm telling you, If you're somebody from Wyoming right now you want to go up and talk a little bit to Roddy and let him know what's at stake here," FS1 color commentator Jess Settles said on the telecast.

DuSell had another idea.

DuSell rubs Roddy's right forearm before taking a couple of steps back to get in position. CSU's forward appears to wipe his arm on the back of his shorts and even smirks before taking the shot.

Roddy's potential game winner clanked off the front of the rim to force overtime.

Wyoming would outscore its Border War rival 14-8 in the extra frame and come away with the 84-78 victory.

"David Roddy, no one is going to feel worse than him," CSU head coach Niko Medved said postgame. "But, you know what, we don't even have a chance to win the game if it's not for David Roddy. You miss free throws. You miss shots. You know, things happen."

Drake Jeffries, who was charged with the initial foul that put Roddy at the line in the first place, said there was only one thing going through his mind -- "Please don't make both."

During his postgame press conference, Jeffries smiled, slightly shook his head and dished an assist to his fellow guard.

"Thankfully X's little arm antics -- he was rubbing his arm -- making sure he feels us. He missed the second one, so, it was good," Jeffries said.

Jeffries was off the hook. For good measure, he drilled a 3-pointer with just 19 seconds left to put an exclamation point on the Cowboys' 17th win of the season. DuSell finished with five points off the UW bench.

Fittingly, the Arizona product drained two clutch free throws in overtime to tie the score at 72-72.
