Cowgirls Make Debut a Successful One
Jordan Kelley scored 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the Wyoming Cowgirls to an 81-53 victory over Chadron State in their season opener Sunday.
Wyoming (1-0) had five players in double figures. In addition to Kelley, Marta Gomez also scored 14 points. Skyler Snodgrass added a career-high 12 points, while Liv Roberts and Marquelle Dent chipped in 11 and 10 points, respectively.
After a slow start by the Cowgirls, the game was 18-18 after one quarter. Wyoming used a 14-4 run early in the second that led to a 38-27 halftime edge. A 10-2 run at the start of the third quarter put UW in control at 48-29.
Snodgrass and Gomez combined for an 8 of 12 performance from beyond the arc. The Cowgirls also got 24 points off 21 Eagles turnovers.
Wyoming shot 45 percent from the field and out-rebounded Chadron State 42-27. They finished with 17 assists and 12 steals.
Chadron State (0-1) was led by Emma Block with 15 points. The Eagles shot 37 percent from the floor. They were held to 30 percent in the second half.
The Cowgirls next game will be Friday when they host St. Mary’s at 7 p.m.
