Cowgirl Volleyball Wins Home Tournament, While Soccer Splits On The Road
Even though their school record win streak came to an end, the Wyoming Cowgirl volleyball team won the Uni-Wyo Wyoming Invite team title.
Volleyball
The Cowgirls (9-1) lost to Gonzaga in a five set match last Friday night. The Bulldogs took the fifth and deciding set by a score of 15-9. That defeat snapped Wyoming's school record 14-match win streak that dated back to last season.
UW bounced back with a three set sweep of Weber State on Saturday afternoon. They finished the tournament with a four-set victory over Furman Saturday night.
Sophomore Kayla Slofkiss was named the Uni-Wyo Wyoming Invite tournament MVP. She finished with 12 kills against Gonzaga, 11 versus Weber State and 14 kills, four digs and three total blocks in the match against Furman.
Senior Erin Kirby and sophomore Laura Beach were also selected to the All-Tournament team.
The Cowgirls will head on the road for more tournament action this weekend in Greeley, Colorado.
Soccer
Wyoming Cowgirl soccer snapped a three-game skid with a 2-1 road win at South Dakota last Friday.
The Cowgirls (2-5) scored both their goals in a two minute span of the second half. Freshman Alisha Bass netted her first career goal in the 57th minute. Then, sophomore Laurel Ramer scored the game-winner in the 58th minute. UW trailed 1-0 at halftime.
They weren't able to capitalize on the momentum, as Wyoming lost on Sunday at the Morehead State Eagles by a final score of 2-1.
Morehead State scored in the 40th and 47th minutes of action. The Cowgirls pulled within a goal thanks to Kasey Curtis' tally in the 57th minute, but the rally fell short. For Curtis, it was her third goal of the season.
The Cowgirl soccer team plays at Northern Colorado this Friday.
