The busy time continues when it comes to sports at the University of Wyoming. This weekend four teams are in competition with three more in practice mode.

Wyoming Cowgirl volleyball returns home this weekend. After suffering their first conference loss last Saturday at Nevada, the Cowgirls will host Air Force on Thursday and New Mexico on Saturday.

Senior outside hitter Kayla Henderson said there was a valuable message in the loss to the Wolfpack.

“I definitely think that we learned that our energy and intensity needs to always be the same… Nothing’s going to be handed to us now; everyone’s after us, even more so; so I think that was a big lesson.”

The Cowgirls are sitting in second place in the Mountain West. They dropped out of the top 25 this week, but are still receiving votes.

Wyoming (13-3, 3-1) has won six straight matches at home. They have also won 21 of 22 in the series against the Falcons. Match time is at 6:30 p.m. The Lobos will visit at 1 p.m. Saturday. Both matches are in the Uni-Wyo Sports Complex.

Soccer

The Cowgirls also are in action at home. UW takes on New Mexico Friday at 3 p.m. and San Diego State Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Cowgirls are 6-3-3 on the season and 2-2 in the Mountain West. Both opponents are tied for second in the league standings at 3-1, while Wyoming is tied for sixth.

Head coach Pete Cuadrado said, “Both are good teams… If we can get on the back end of the chances we are creating, we will have a good chance at winning this weekend.”

Both matches will take place at the Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex.

Swimming and Diving

The Cowboys and Cowgirls make their official 2015-16 season debut at the Denver Relays Saturday. The women’s team has nine seniors led by Captain Emily Stucky, while the men’s team has seven seniors with Captain Kyle Scalise leading the squad.

The competition begins at noon in the El Pomar Natatorium.

Women’s Golf

The Wyoming Cowgirls hit the links for their second to last tournament of the fall season. They are also in Denver area for the Ron Moore Intercollegiate at Highlands Ranch Golf Course.

UW is one of 18 teams in the field. The tournament starts Friday and goes through Sunday. They’ll play 18 holes each day.

Practice

Basketball practice for the Wyoming Cowboys and Cowgirls is underway. The men are a week in, while the ladies began Tuesday.

The Wyoming Cowboy wrestling team joins the mix, as they open practice for their 2015-16 season Saturday. Their first competition will be November 1.
